As of this response, the staff had just started doing their annual check up on bathrooms and kitchens, to prevent such issues! In the event it is... as toxic as this person states, then we would go the route of removing the walls and putting in a new Surround (even if original was Tile) so that the tenant can get there bathroom back ASAP. Just a quick reminder that mold on the walls typically comes from ventilation or over saturation. Please make sure all bathroom fans are on when water is running and for about 15 minutes after. Most switches have been changed so that when the light comes on, so does the fan, to avoid this issue. Additionally, it is important for tenants to CLEAN THEIR BATHROOMS. Most often the issue of mold is on the exterior grout or caulk, which would not occur with regular cleaning. That said, we will come in and recaulk the bathroom once as a courtesy, but we do expect that a tenant maintains the cleanliness of their bathroom.
