Do not move here!

Living at The Mercantile is unpleasant and frustrating. Before moving in, I was NOT told that there would be Airbnb’s located in the same area as the rented apartment units, that random (sometimes drunk) guests from the downstairs event space (Flat 51) or the Dueling Axes bar would be able to come to the apartment lobby, or that I would be able to hear loud rock music playing every Saturday night from The Walrus restaurant close by. It was only after moving in when I realized that resident... safety and comfort is not a main priority at The Mercantile. In addition to the things I mentioned, the building is so poorly insulated/constructed that you hear EVERYTHING your neighbors are doing (and they hear everything you’re doing). I have been woken up countless times anywhere from 10:00 pm to 4:00 am due to my upstairs or next door neighbors flushing toilets, showering, turning on lights, speaking, playing music, etc. It’s truly uncomfortable being able to hear every noise anyone makes at any time. I have lived in multiple other apartments in Columbus and did not experience any of these issues until I moved here. Please save yourself the headaches and sleepless nights and DO NOT MOVE HERE!

Great management, but paper-thin walls and nonstop noise

The new management is great, but the building is really horrible to live in. The walls are paper-thin, we can hear almost every conversation from our neighbors, especially during quite hours, even when they’re speaking normally. There are a lot of Airbnbs in the building, including our next door; large groups often show up and party until 3 a.m. It’s impossible to escape the noise, even with our bedroom door closed. There’s also a room on the first floor that’s frequently rented out for public... events, it gets super loud, and you often come home to strangers crowding the hallway and lobby while loud music blares across the whole floor. The main entry door is often left unlocked, so people can walk in without buzzing, which raises real security concerns. If you’re sensitive to noise or safety, I highly recommend not moving here.

Great place with new management

New management took over and turned this building around. Renovated the lounge, very responsive, and take care of the building.

New management has turned this building around!

The new management has made a huge difference. They are very responsive, and problems are fixed quickly. They also renovated the lounge, which was a huge plus.
