We toured Elan Crown Point with Manuela, and the community is beautiful. Before applying, we were upfront about being in an active Chapter 13 bankruptcy and asked if it would automatically disqualify us. Manuela assured us that credit was only one factor and that strong criteria in other areas could still lead to approval. She asked us to submit documentation, which we did—including a full Credit Explanation Letter that any realtor or lender would recognize as valid.
After submitting everything,... we were denied and told to contact the credit reporting company to “change” the decision. We knew this was incorrect, but we called anyway. The credit bureau confirmed they cannot change approvals and only provide the report. They also stated the denial came solely from Greystar because of the bankruptcy.
It became clear that the guidance we received was inaccurate and unhelpful. We lost the $70 application fees and now must wait up to 30 days for the $150 security deposit refund. After researching, we found many similar complaints about Greystar misleading applicants, denying people for unclear reasons, and delaying refunds, which made this feel like part of a larger pattern.
I wasn’t planning to leave a review because the property is gorgeous, but after reading so many similar experiences, I felt it was important to share ours. Bankruptcy already carries enough stigma, and companies like Greystar make it worse by treating applicants as if their hardship is a personal failing. Dismissing a formal explanation letter as “not a document” is especially concerning, coming from someone claiming to be a realtor.
In the end, we’re thankful our application was denied. After reading the reviews, we realized we don’t want to experience the issues others have faced. Elan Crown Point is beautiful, but if you want to save time and money and you have a bankruptcy or anything similar, don’t apply. Greystar will not work with you, despite what is said during the tour.

My decision to move into these brand new apartments was one of the easiest I’ve ever had to make. Aside from the location, the lack of carpet, and the top-notch amenities; the team they have here is the reason I made the move.

I first worked with Chad, then Michael, and finally Manuela, and each of them were amazing. You expect Greystar to do their due diligence and hire great people, but they really outdid themselves with this bunch.

I’ve lived here for one week and can’t recommend this... place enough!
