1390-1400 Kelton Apartments, AKA Westwood Apartments: Poor Quality Apartment Community

Despite the fact that 1400 Kelton Apartments is centrally located in West LA, I could not continue living there and regretted moving in, despite the fact that it was the only apartment I could find that offered tandem parking with a California single. My previous apartment was run efficiently and professionally, 1400 Kelton Apartment was not.

Efficiency: During my stay at Kelton, I came across some problems. The property is inefficiently run by a lack of technology. After I moved in, the...
property manager said that the owners “…would not give her a computer…” to run the business in her office, which is completely unacceptable in this day and age. As a result of running this property without any type of technology, the tenants are left with hand-written notes tapped to the elevator, mail room, and resident doors, without privacy envelopes. The lighting conditions are poor. There are no windows, unless you get a unit that faces the street. The only source of light is a balcony door. During our tour the PM tried to convince us that the light would be sufficient, but it wasn't.

A/C: Our HVAC system broke within a month of living there and poured water all over the floor, damaging the wood and carpet nearby. The ceiling under the HVAC was a drop-ceiling, and let me tell you, it definitely “dropped” all over our floor. The ceiling collected so much water that the ceiling collapsed. The property’s response time was slow and the maintenance team took months to fix it. We couldn’t use our central A/C during this time, and it was during August and September, the two arguably hottest months of the year in LA. Even without running our A/C, the ceiling still leaked water, and we placed buckets down to collect the running water for months.

Many other things happened during our stay, but at the end of the day, we had a roof over our head, paying a lower-than-average market rents.
