Refused to refund Application fee due to their move in delay.
Management refused to refund my application fee. Despite not meeting their own deadline for the move in date. I completed the online application and paid the fee. I had a couple of questions so I called. I spoke to someone that could not answer the question but said she would check with management and promised to call me back. I waited 4+ hours.She forgot about me. First red flag. I called back and Carter the manager answered. I explained I had been waiting for hours for a call back. He stated... , they would have a room coming available on the 8/15 and if needed they could accommodate an early move in. I visited the Summit on 8/10/26 to take a tour and ask about moving in early. They didn’t have a show room for future residents. They require you to move in sight unseen. 2nd red flag. I asked if it was possible to move in before the 15th per our phone conversation? I’m new to Charleston and new to the teaching hospital. I came car packed and ready to move in. Carter said, he could have the room ready in two days. I was relieved. I made hotel accommodations waiting for Carter to call. He forgot about me too and 3rd red flag. The two days he promised came and went. The original move in date of 8/15/26 posted on the website came and went. The room wasn’t cleaned and move in ready by the advertised date. 4th red flag. I received an email on 8/19/26 asking me to sign the lease. I am a reasonable person but management made no attempts to call or email with move in delays. I scrambled to find another place to stay. I called and asked for a refund of my application fee to use for gas or groceries since they were delayed and never reached out. I held the line and when the person came back she told me No. It’s bad business. I’d like my application fee returned since the move in date was delayed due to no fault of my own.

Thank you for sharing your experience. We strive to provide clear communication and a positive leasing experience for all prospective residents, and we'd like to provide some additional context.
After reviewing your application, we found that the... phone number entered on your application was incorrect. As a result, when our team attempted to contact you regarding your move-in and leasing process, we were repeatedly connected to the wrong number. Unfortunately, this made it very difficult for us to reach you directly.
We would also like to clarify that the room was prepared and ready for your arrival as discussed. However, we never received a signed lease from you. Without a fully executed lease agreement, we are unable to permit a resident to move in. Since we did not receive a signed lease and were unable to successfully contact you, we believed you had decided not to move forward with the application process.
That said, we understand your frustration regarding the communication challenges, and as a gesture of goodwill, your application fee has been refunded.
We sincerely wish you the best in your new home and with your career in Charleston. If you would like to discuss your experience further, please feel free to contact our management team directly. We are always looking for ways to improve our service and communication.

Summit place is the best place
Summit Place has truly felt like home from the moment I moved in. The staff is incredibly friendly and always willing to help—whether it’s answering questions, planning fun community events, or just saying hi when you walk through the clubhouse. The community atmosphere here is one of my favorite parts. There’s always something going on, and it’s a great way to meet people and actually feel connected to where you live.

Perfect for me!
Summit place welcomed me with open arms when I moved from Cleveland, Ohio. I know Ohioans aren’t everyone’s favorite but everyone here has made me feel more welcome than I have in any living situation in my past. Thanks summit place!
