I’ve been living with K&D for two years now. The apartment is fine, the amenities are subpar at best, location is fine (Lakewood/Tremont are more lively areas in Cleveland), and the maintenance staff are timely with responses. Currently applying to grad school so my life is up in the air - I cannot commit to another year-long lease. The property manager, Jerome, told me I would be able to negotiate month-to-month lease prices, with K&D charging up to an extra $100/month for leases less than a... year. When I in fact tried to negotiate, they stonewalled me and did not negotiate. This was disappointing considering I was initially fine with paying the extra rate, until their own property manager told me that I could get the extra fees for month-to-month waived. I expressed that I would like to stay with K&D for three more years if I stay in the area, so I would value some collaboration when it came to the arbitrary month-to-month rates, especially since I’ve been paying them for the last two years. Again, no. Without any options, I of course had to resign. Later, they delivered a paper that addressed a new pet policy. Now, I have to pay an extra monthly fee for my pet, even though I haven’t paid this for the last two years. Additionally, the past two years I’ve been receiving a preferred employer discount since I work with a hospital. I asked for my new 3-month lease to reflect the discount. To my surprise, they told me after I signed my lease that I’m no longer eligible to receive the discount, even though I’m still with the same employer I’ve been with for the last two years. Additionally, K&D security guards essentially threw my groceries away when I had them delivered through Instacart, and even though the property manager expressed that the security guard should have put them in the fridge, they never followed up or reimbursed me for my lost groceries. Overall, K&D is becoming increasingly greedy, valuing lining their own pockets over the relationships with their tenants. I’m extremely displeased and I cannot wait to end my lease with them as soon as possible, even if I stay in Cleveland. Would highly recommend living somewhere else if you have the option. I have lived in 5 different major cities on the East Coast and this is by far, one of the best properties and staff I have come across. Mark and Lindsey are very professional and responsive, and that really sets them apart from the rest. Maintenance is on top of things and keeping the building clean and safe is an obvious priority. The only downfall is that parking is not attached to the building or available onsite at all. I moved to Cleveland this spring and I am delighted that I found The Residences at Leader! The building itself is beautiful and very solidly built so there’s no noise from neighbors at all. The hallways are very well lit and are made of beautiful white marble! The ceilings are so high that 96 inch curtains come just to my window sills, not the floor. I love the character of the building! The temperature in the gym is a wonderful 68 degrees, which I find perfect for working out, and the... equipment is new. The security staff is friendly and helpful, and heavy packages are actually delivered right to your door! I’ve put in a couple of maintenance requests at 9 am and they were completed by noon that same day! There is a trash shoot on each floor which is a huge convenience. It’s an easy 5 min walk to the downtown Heinen’s grocery, and 10 mins to Indian’s and Cav’s games. I thought I would miss gardening but there are so many lovely flower beds and planters to enjoy downtown, and someone else is maintaining them! My wife and I have been living here since 2017. We love it! The Leader Building is in the best section of downtown. Close to everything--from the Cleveland Public Library to the Lakefront, to Browns Stadium, to the Warehouse District, to Playhouse Square, to the baseball bark, to Cleveland State University. Everything is walkable from Superior and East 6th. Great staff in the building. Kept very clean! And very responsive to maintenance requests. The building itself is extremely solid,... and noise-proof. We have never heard anyone in the suites on either side of us. And there is an infant in one, and a dog in the other. Theb asement has a wonderful gym, as well as secure storage for your bikes. And did I mention the history of the building itself. Built in 1912 by the scion of one of Cleveland's wealthy 19th century families. The lobby is richly ornate and the elevators are gorgeous; they are said to have been designed by Tiffany.
