Heller Realty are the owners. Not the best land lords and not the worst. The elevator broke for three weeks, that was annoying; but it was actively being repaired. The building is kept up well, and the live-in Super is very good. When a repair is needed in the apartment he shows up promptly. When something must be taken care of by the landlords such as security cameras or the dishwasher.... forget about it. You'll never hear from them. They were sued a few years ago for being unproactive... in dealing with a bed bug issue (since resolved). The laundry room is a NIGHTMARE, but at least there is a laundry room. The machines are constantly eating your quarters. Who has machines that run on quarters anymore?
The neighborhood is amazing. We live between Broadway and Riverside Drive. 1/2 a block to the Hudson River and Riverside Park, Grant's Tomb. Amazing. Beautiful park, better than Central Park. In the other direction, we're 1/2 a block from the "1" train which is very reliable. The street is quiet, and heavily patrolled by campus police. Very few restaurants nearby, which is frustrating and no place to get flowers, no laundry mat nearby. Most of the people on our street are grad students, many from the Manhattan School of Music, so someone is always belting out an aria or playing a cello. Pretty neat.
The apartment is a three bedroom. Newly renovated kitchen with a mediocre dishwasher and a microwave that is missing the rotating plate for some reason. Beautiful hardwood floors with a nice inlay on the borders. Clawfoot tub. Amazing to take a bath in, but not so great stepping out of. They do require a bit more TLC than regular tubs. 2 bedrooms are glorified closets, and one bedroom is ginormous because it was originally a living room, but the apartment was converted long ago. Lots of light for the plants. No closets. Spacious living room, good windows.
The floors creak and the radiators hiss. The apartment breathes, it lives. Good Harlem living.
