The Kelston is located in Charlotte, NC in the 28212 zip code.
I am a current tenant at Kelston Place Apartments, and while I truly like the apartment itself, my experience with management has been extremely frustrating.
The unit and property are nice, and I do feel safe living here. However, the leasing and move-in process involved repeated communication issues and mistakes that made the experience far more stressful than it should have been.
Before moving in, I was told multiple times that my application was approved and that my move-in date was... confirmed. I packed all my belongings, rented a moving truck, and arrived on the scheduled day only to be told there was no move-in scheduled and the unit I had been promised was not ready. After showing call records confirming the conversations, management acknowledged the confusion and offered a different unit that same day, assuring me that the rent would remain the same.
Unfortunately, additional issues continued after that. My lease and welcome letter were sent with incorrect information, my rent was listed at a higher amount than what had been discussed, and it often took many calls or in-person visits just to receive updates or corrections. Promised rent credits for my first two months also were not reflected on my account initially, which resulted in late fees and notices that I had to repeatedly contact the office to resolve.
I also submitted documentation showing the originally discussed rent amount after being asked to do so, but I never received a follow-up update despite multiple attempts to check in.
Most recently, my vehicle was towed from the property over a missing registration sticker, even though I had previously contacted the office to explain that the sticker had fallen off and a replacement was already on the way. Because the office said there was "no record on their end" of my call, I was told I would need to pay $250 to retrieve my vehicle.
Again, I want to emphasize that the apartment itself is nice and I’m happy with the space. My frustration has been almost entirely related to communication and follow-through from management. I hope these issues improve so future residents have a smoother experience.

Lots of issues and terrible maintenance but trying
Leasing office is very hard to reach through phone/email, you have to just show up to get help. My apartment was changed last minute so the one i viewed wasnt what i got. The apartment was filthy, several inches of dust in ac and painted over, trash in garbage disposal, holes in flooring, internet connections painted over and couldn't connect my wifi, parking lot was/still is filled with mud, there's a centipede/bug problem, bathroom handle wouldn't lock, the bathroom sink and ac was leaking,... and so many more problems. I tried calling multiple times to the office and the emergency maintenance line and could get no one. Finally found how to put in requests online and all were marked completed yet either not done or were half way done. The bathroom door handle was replaced but fell off in my hand when I got home. Trash was left in the garbage disposal too and nothing else was done. I spoke to the manager and she got the flooring replaced and all of those issues fixed but maintenance shouldn't have lied about completing it. Later, I found out I didn't have the key for the storage room and was locked out, the light pull chain was also missing. Put both things in for maintenance and next day was marked done but was still locked and told they were waiting on parts. How would they even know what part for the light is needed since it was locked? Door remained locked for weeks and I kept being told someone would come out a certain day but that never happened. Finally they unlocked it but still haven't been given a key and light is still messed up. There is a trash problem with trash piled up high at the dumpster and large items like appliances all around. Some of this is from tenants but a large majority is maintenance. Tenants aren't pulling out dishwashers, stoves, etc and leaving them laying. Valet trash is required where you put your trash outside your door and someone picks it up so it's not the tenants leaving a mountain of trash laying in front of the compactor, that's maintenance. It's been a month now and the bins at the dog waste stations are overflowing, I know they aren't emptying them because the mail I threw away when I first moved in is still sitting on top. I only gave 2 stars because when my ac went out they did fix it the next day. It seems like management is trying but they're blaming tenants when maintenance is not doing their job and lying about completing things. The pool is nice but they show a gym on the site and it hasn't even been started.

The WORST place to live in Charlotte
The roach infestation is really bad. No matter how clean of a person you are they will always appear. Pest control? There is no such thing. You’ll be paying for an imaginary service. Apartments are old and outdated. Very little natural lighting. Unattractive curb appeal and no security. Property management is basically on rotation. The “clubhouse/pool” haven’t been worked on in a year with no expected finish time. Mailboxes are completely run down and half are broken and cannot be used. DO NOT... MOVE HERE! My biggest mistake was signing the lease.

BEWARE
Please do not be fooled by the description & the pictures. We do not have a clubhouse, a fitness center, or a pool. The current leasing office is in an apartment after the old one burned down. The on-site maintenance people are very lazy, they ride around all day on their golf carts instead of repairing things. A few months ago our AC went out in the dead heat of the summer & it took them 3 days to fix it!! I had a baby in the apartment & he could’ve had a HEAT STROKE! Did they care? No, it was... over 100 degrees in the apartment. As of recently, our heat went out at the worse time possible when the temperatures dipped below freezing. No one answered the phone in the leasing office & I showed up & no one answered the door. It’s been two days now with no heat & I had to come out of pocket to buy a space heater that only heats one part of the apartment. Long story short, this apartment complex does not care about anybody but themselves so please don’t make the same mistake I did by signing the lease!

Does Not Look Anything Like Pictured?
I went as a potential future resident to try and tour the place. Could not find the leasing office. The buildings have been neglected with grime on them, broken framework, and small narrow roads.
