No Soundproofing, Ineffective Management
I recently moved out of my unit at Edison after living there for 16 months. It was by far the worst living experience I’ve ever had in my life.
As is becoming far too common with newer builds like this, there’s very little soundproofing. I heard everything my neighbors above and beside me did at all hours of the day and night. Pounding footsteps, slamming doors, listening to music, watching TV, barking dogs; I heard it all loud and clear. It felt less like they were neighbors and more like they... were roommates from hell. Over time, this really wore on my sanity and I was completely unable to relax in my own home. I was forced to invest in noise cancelling headphones and earplugs in order to enjoy any semblance of peace during the day or at night.
My upstairs neighbors were particularly problematic, as the noise they made often went above and beyond any sort of reasonable level. I was woken up nearly every morning at 5:30 AM due to their incessant stomping which continued all day long. They also played music and watched TV so loudly that it caused my ceiling and walls to shake. I made countless detailed complaints (with audio/video proof) to the building’s management, including during established “quiet hours”, but the issues never improved. Additionally, they allowed their dog to urinate and defecate off of their balcony and onto mine many times. While this was eventually resolved, it was just one in a long line of problems that I had with them.
My next-door neighbors ironically included one of the building’s leasing agents. Her unsupervised dogs attempted to attack mine multiple times while we were sitting out on my balcony (the divider between units has gaps on the side and along the bottom), leaving my dog scared to sit out there with me. She also played music so loudly that it caused my walls to shake. I submitted multiple complaints to her supervisor, but unsurprisingly nothing ever changed. Additionally, she allowed her dogs to urinate off of her balcony, which seems to be a disgustingly common occurrence at this community. You’d think that someone who worked in the building would be more conscious and courteous of their neighbors, but unfortunately that isn’t the case.
As a whole, the management staff is nice on the surface but also largely ineffective. They’ll listen while you explain the problems you’re experiencing and act sympathetic, but subsequently refuse to take any sort of meaningful action towards resolution.
