The only real positive about this apartment community is the location. Beyond that, my experience was extremely disappointing.
The biggest issue was the persistent rodent problem. The entire time I lived here, there were rats in the walls. I repeatedly reported scratching and squeaking noises to maintenance, and while the maintenance staff themselves were always kind and did what they could, they informed me that my downstairs neighbor was reporting the exact same issue. Despite numerous... maintenance requests, the problem was never resolved. On one occasion, the scratching and chewing noises in my bedroom walls were so loud that I couldn't even stay in my apartment for the week because it sounded like the rats were going to chew through the wall. It's incredibly frustrating to pay monthly pest control fees while dealing with ongoing rodents and seeing roaches throughout the property.
There were also ongoing issues with the parking garage. At one point, the garage door malfunctioned, preventing residents from leaving. Afterward, the garage entrance remained without a functioning door for an extended period.
The package room was consistently disorganized, and the property rarely utilized the package notification system. Instead of receiving notifications, residents were left guessing whether packages had arrived and searching through piles of deliveries to find them.
Parking is another major downside. There is no guest parking, and even resident parking is extremely limited.
The advertised amenities were also disappointing. Access to the business center was unreliable because it was often locked, and resident key fobs did not consistently provide access.
My move-out experience has been just as frustrating as my tenancy. I disputed several charges that were deducted from my security deposit and repeatedly requested documentation explaining how certain utility charges were calculated, including copies of the supporting utility invoices. Despite multiple emails and my concerns being escalated to management, I never received the documentation I requested or a clear explanation of several of the disputed charges.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience as a former resident. We appreciate your feedback and are grateful that you recognized the convenience of our community’s location. We understand the importance of a comfortable living... environment, and all pest control and maintenance concerns are taken seriously and addressed as promptly as possible. The package room is organized multiple times each week to assist residents in locating packages. Our community has two levels of parking available, providing ample space for both residents and guests. The garage incident you refer to was caused by a resident striking the garage door, which caused it to become stuck. Residents were not left trapped in the garage. Management immediately contacted the garage door vendor to arrange service. The business center is connected to the leasing office and so is only open during leasing office hours. Still, all residents have access to the business center during these times, as the door is always unlocked. Regarding the charges assessed, these were related to utilities incurred during your time of occupancy. Supporting documentation, including itemized utility statements outlining the charges and applicable service dates, was provided for your review. If you have any remaining questions or would like to discuss the details further, we would welcome the opportunity to connect with you. Please feel free to email us at shirlingtonvillage@waterton.com.

For Arlington and Shirlington Community, the rental prices are fair. The location is close to many key areas in the DMV.

They’ll keep your security deposit
AVOID. The property is unkept, there are broken mailboxes, consistently stolen packages, constant fire alarms, and a hazardous amount of bird poop that gets loudly power-washed weekly—only for it to return immediately.
As a young, able-bodied person, I never imagined I’d break my foot just walking through the poorly maintained property, but that’s exactly what happened. Following the incident the main elevator in the building was out of use and stayed out of operation for over 3 months. At one... point, none of the buildings elevators were operational at the same time.
My car window was smashed in the building’s parking garage and when I reported it, the front office showed zero concern and refused to provide assistance without a subpoena.
Water to the entire building was out for over a week. The gym was closed for 6+ months.
Despite leaving our apartment swept and empty when we moved out, they kept 85% of our security deposit without providing any notice. When they did provide the itemizations the charges were inflated and unreasonable. AVOID.

Thank you for sharing your experience. We value all feedback and remain committed to providing a safe and comfortable living environment for our residents.
Regarding the concerns you’ve raised:
Crow Situation: The property has implemented measures... to address the ongoing crow issue, as they are a protected species. We are working with a professional company to train the crows to another area, as this has been a broader challenge within Shirlington Village. Additionally, we conduct pressure washing twice a week to maintain cleanliness, and we sincerely apologize if this caused any inconvenience with the noise as we tried to clean up the bird mess.
Elevator and Fitness Center Closures: We understand the inconvenience caused by the temporary closures of these amenities. These issues were addressed as quickly as possible given the complexity of the repairs. Please note, as outlined in your lease agreement, ownership reserves the right to close amenities, which are not included as part of your rent.
Parking Garage Security: Resident safety and security are top priorities. We strongly encourage residents to report any incidents to law enforcement, as their involvement is essential to take certain necessary steps.
For clarity on lease agreements, including security deposit and maintenance procedures, we encourage residents to review the terms provided at move-in. If you’d like to discuss your experience further, please don’t hesitate to contact us directly.

If it’s the cost of living, location, or the property management staff, I would recommend the citizen to anybody that wants to live in the dmv
