I was genuinely excited to move here. I applied, planned my move, and was ready to sign. After dealing with the leasing team and seeing the property for myself, I walked away. Honestly, I’m relieved I did.

The leasing team was HORRIBLE. From the beginning, the communication felt argumentative, dismissive, and passive-aggressive. I had reasonable questions about pricing and instead of feeling like someone was actually trying to help me, I felt like I... was being treated as the problem.

That was a huge red flag.

If you cannot trust the people who are trying to get you to sign a lease, think very carefully before handing them thousands of dollars.

Then I saw the property.

THE AREA: I personally did NOT feel safe or comfortable in the surrounding area. I strongly recommend driving through the area yourself, especially after dark. Do not make your decision based only on a daytime leasing tour.

SECURITY: Building and elevator access felt far too easy. I personally did not feel comfortable with the level of security and access control I observed.

CLEANLINESS: I saw dog waste, urine, stains, and encountered a strong marijuana odor inside the building. The apartment itself had stains and an unpleasant smell.

THE APARTMENT: The model apartment is spacious and polished. The actual unit I was shown was significantly smaller and gave a completely different impression. SEE YOUR EXACT UNIT BEFORE SIGNING.

THIN WALLS: If you care about peace, privacy, or quiet, pay attention to this.

And the craziest part?

I WANTED TO LIVE HERE.

I was excited. I applied. I was preparing to move.

After seeing the reality, I went from “I can’t wait to move in” to:

“THANK GOD I DIDN’T SIGN.”

Do yourself a favor before renting here. See the exact apartment. Visit after dark. Walk through the building. Check the elevators and access points. Look at the common areas. Check for odors and cleanliness. Listen for noise. And pay very close attention to how the leasing team treats you when you ask questions.

A beautiful model apartment and a good sales pitch do not tell you what living there will actually be like.

I’ve been here for two years as Active-Duty Military and plan on staying here my whole tour.

Maintenance crew and the front office team are amazing. Love the location as well.

Lisa and the entire team truly make this community feel like home. Their professionalism and deep knowledge of everything happening around the apartment complex ensures that residents are always taken care of promptly and efficiently. Any time I’ve had a question or needed assistance, the response has been timely, helpful, and genuinely welcoming. I couldn’t ask for a better team or living experience highly recommend this community.

Contempo NOVA masquerades as a high-end apartment complex in rent prices only. With a few shiny amenities, the actual apartment building is poorly constructed, and extremely mismanaged. Crack pipes found in stairwells, Vehicles broken into and stolen from the residential garage, homeless people living in vans next to the building, and the constant smell of weed. Garage doors and elevators are constantly breaking down and sometimes not fixed for several months at a time. Communication with... management is extremely poor as they take days to respond to an issue if not at all. Resident’s safety at this property is of no concern to management here. You bring a safety issue to their attention and all you’ll get are well rehearsed responses but no actual remedy to your concern. We’ve had a plethora of trespassers since I moved here, from homeless people to crackheads…actual crackheads breaking into the buildings to get high in the bathrooms or to sleep in the lounge areas and absolutely nothing has been done to address the issue. Although a very simple solution to remedy... the problem would be to hire security, instead we get the same rehearsed response about one of the residents being an Alexandria police officer. However none of the residents have actually seen him or knows how to contact him in the event you actually need him but that’s the response you get.
This being a non-smoking property is a complete fairy tale, the hallways and stairwells constantly wreak of marijuana and cigarette smoke and nothing ever happens to the residents causing these problems. Management just responds to the complaints with the exact same repetitive copy, paste and send email each time.
Each building has the grossest, smelliest, most disgusting carpets that look as if they haven’t been replaced or cleaned since the property was built…but the main lobby and leasing office spaces don’t have these problems…gotta make things like pretty so the apartments can continue to rent. The parking garage doors have only actually worked a total of maybe a week since I moved in, so the thieves have easy access to your vehicles to break into them or steal them all together…my neighbor just had his motorcycle stolen. You ask management when they will be repaired and you get yet another rehearsed response about them waiting for parts.

To sum things up if you move here you’ll be paying for amenities that partially or sometimes work, your car may be stolen from the garage, hopefully weed smoke doesn’t bother you because you’ll always smell it and you’ll probably run into a crackhead or two in the hallways, but to make up for all of that they have free chips in the leasing office for you to snack on when you come in to complain.
