I have lived at Berkshire for just under six months, and overall it is an okay place to live. The apartments are in good condition, the buildings are usually quiet, offer keyless entry, and are within walking distance of The Rim and nearby walking trails.

On the other hand, many of the gates and exterior doors do not lock, and the property frequently has dog waste scattered around due to negligent residents. More concerning, I have had four packages totaling over $1,000 stolen from the mailroom... within a single month. I reported these issues to management—particularly the repeated package thefts—but received no meaningful help. I requested that management review the security cameras, follow up with their findings, and place signage in the mailroom encouraging couriers not to leave packages unsecured. None of these actions have been taken.

The property and lease managers, Ashley and Amanda, have been unhelpful. They regularly promise to “get back to you,” but fail to follow through and eventually become unresponsive.

As a result, I will not be renewing our lease. I do not enjoy paying top-dollar rent only to have packages stolen by residents and concerns ignored by management.

In summary, this property has a great location and nice apartments with real potential, but poor security and lazy management significantly detract from the experience. Read More

Have regretted moving here since day 1. Here are the main issues summarized:

1. Office staff: It is impossible to get ahold of the staff, they do not answer the phone (I have called multiple times over my months of living here and have never gotten a person) and if you leave a voicemail, you will not get a call back. I work 80 hours a week and the only way to get in touch with them is to walk into the office. When you get there, they are unhelpful and rude.

2. Safety: The gates to this "gated"... apartment complex rarely function, letting in just about anyone. Packages are repeatedly stolen and doors are constantly propped open (which the office staff refuse to help with). More than once the doors to the building have been broken allowing anyone to walk in and out for weeks at a time. Within 1 week of living here my car was keyed. I filed a police report and notified the office who assured me they would take steps. Instead nothing was done and I noted at least 5 more cars keyed within the week.

3. Parking: Constantly have to park on the street, and forced to walk quite a ways to get to the apartment in the early morning or evening, feels extremely unsafe. The only way to ensure parking, I have been told, is to pay $200 a month for a garage spot on top of already exorbitant rent.

4. Cleanliness: From dog pee in the elevator, to valet trash service that is not consistent- leaving the hallways stinking of garbage. There is frequently trash littered throughout the hallways and they buildings smell like pot more often than not. Don't be fooled by the online pictures either, while the apartments might look nice enough, the hallways have concrete floors and look more like a warehouse than a home.

5. Packages/Deliveries: Living in a "luxury" apartment, you'd think you could get packages delivered safely. However, the most well known delivery services (UPS, FedEx, Amazon) do not have consistent access to the buildings or the mail room. Once packages are delivered they are frequently stolen. Don't be fooled by the promises of Parcel Lockers, your packages rarely end up there. Staff will not help you if your package is stolen either. There is also no functional buzzing system for this apartment so if you order delivery of any type you must let them in at the gate.

6. Overpriced: This apartment is way overpriced for the low quality that it is. There are multiple apartments in the area that are cheaper, nicer, and I'm sure have more helpful office staff.

The Retreat at The Rim (soon to be renamed Berkshire at the Rim) experience has been nothing but negative and negligent since the new company took over in December. I cannot speak to the office staff (only being dismissed or not answering phones), every building has at least one door broken, mailroom door is broken, keyboards taken from computers so residents can’t use them, hallways are dirty, grounds are full of animal waste, parking rules and apps are ridiculous, the gate had been broken for... a couple months, access to certain amenities have been restricted or closed regularly. This certainly does not fulfill what this company advertises as the Berkshire Promise and what would be expected of luxury apartments.
This by far is the worst apartment living experience I have encountered. Property management is absolutely horrible. They are extremely defensive when residents express issues that should be addressed and take zero accountability. The emails sent to residents are unprofessional and accusatory. Meanwhile, the staff parties at the pool and brings friends and the next day sends an email saying glass was present at the pool and residents should tell people to leave or call the cops (but the staff said nothing at the time, while seeing the glass); and the following day sends an email threatening resident that they will close the pool for the remainder of the season and no speakers allowed.
Sure, the units are nice but the headaches and unprofessional staff are not worth it. There are plenty nice apartments at the rim, I would highly suggest looking elsewhere. Walk around and talk to some residents that have lived here before signing and you will hear for yourself. Read More
