My experience at 2500 N. McColl Apartments in McAllen has been one of the worst rental experiences I’ve had. Between poor management, inadequate maintenance, broken security, mandatory internet service, and billing disputes, I cannot recommend this property.

The management team was consistently difficult to work with and communication was poor. Maintenance appears to be severely understaffed, resulting in delays, canceled work orders, and unresolved issues. My resident portal documents multiple... maintenance requests over the course of my tenancy. Although some requests were completed, several essential move-out requests—including matching paint for wall touch-ups, replacement door stops, and refrigerator door shelves/trays—were canceled. I requested these items specifically so I could return the apartment in good condition before my final inspection, but they were never provided.

The property itself is not well maintained. The breezeways are frequently dirty, and the overall appearance of the community does not reflect what prospective tenants are shown during tours.

Security is another major concern. The front entrance gates were frequently broken or left open, making the “gated community” designation largely meaningless.

Residents are also required to pay for mandatory internet service, even if they would prefer another provider. This is an additional expense that prospective tenants should understand before signing a lease.

The most troubling issue has been the handling of my move-out and account. I submitted my 60-day notice to vacate with an expected move-out date of July 15, 2026. According to my experience, management later changed my move-out date to July 31, 2026, reversed the prorated rent adjustment that had been discussed, and continued billing my account. I have disputed these charges and remain concerned that additional charges may continue to accrue despite my notice to vacate.

Overall, my experience reflects a pattern of poor communication, inconsistent management decisions, inadequate staffing, and unresolved resident concerns. Based on my experience, I would encourage anyone considering this property to carefully review the lease, ask detailed questions about mandatory fees, maintenance response times, and billing practices, and compare other apartment communities before signing. Visited this place last week while apartment shopping. We walked in and sadly immediately walked out. The pool was dark green. The photos online are incredibly misleading. This place does not look at all like it does online. Very run down.
Extremely disappointed as I loved the way it looked online. This was my first choice to visit because of the beautiful pictures on the internet.

Besides that they never fix anything, they change contract and worse, they want you to pay extra fees like crazy. This is suppose to be a first class apartment and unfortunately it is not. The prices are also crazy for the units and services they offer.

Apts aren't that great, always something wrong. Foundation for apartment is terrible, floor boards are bad. People who don't live here use the pool and parking space because gate is always open. Customer service and management is nonexistent, don't even bother unless you want to ask them multiple times while being ignored. Takes forever for them to actually fix stuff. Live elsewhere at a place where they actually care about their tenants.

The management is terrible. They never fixed any problems with multiple requests. Managers keep changing. When we move out they wouldn’t give deposit back claiming they never received the notice even though we gave it to previous manager. There are better apartments on Trenton.
