A word of caution: Expect to wait 2 to 3 months and many emails with BLDG Management to get repairs and maintenance requests handled. If you submit a repair request, it will be closed without being addressed. But you can pay the super on the side if you want work done and special favors.
See the poorly maintained floors in most apartments as an example of how they handle maintenance. BLDG Management would rather drive tenants out to raise the rent.
The doormen, porters, and handyman, however... , are wonderful.

Studio in the center of it all
I live in a great apartment on Union Square in Manhattan. It is full service with a doorman, and a gym. I feel so lucky to be able to live in such a wonderful city.

Union Square Doorman Building
The building is competent. It doesn't do anything amazingly well but it does not disappoint in any important aspect. The maintenance staff and superintendent are all very nice and responsive. You are paying mostly for the location but there are some nice luxury touches like granite countertops and bathroom walls done up in stonework. The alcove studio is the size of most 1 bedroom apartments. It just lacks a wall separating the alcove from the living room.
The units have really large windows... which makes the room feel much larger than it is. Some of the units have a view of Union Square. The location on 14th street will tend to be loud. In the daytime, you get sirens and street noise. At night, there are occasionally drunk people yelling non sense. It is NYC after all.
The actual location can't be beat. You're on top of the 4/5/6 and super close to the L and N/Q/R.
Fitness center is decent in a pinch when you don't want to leave the building. Open till midnight too.
The building is not top of the line luxury but it is still well worth the money in this neighborhood. I am satisfied here.
