Nice concept but overpriced...and Management isn't great :-(
At first glance, the Hopkinson is a nice building, but there are several things you should know:
The Hopkinson is sandwiched between a busy road (West Main Street) and a rail yard. Not a "train track"... an entire rail YARD. With no exaggeration, this is a noisy place to live.
(1) **Loud Rail Yard in the Back**
There are multiple train tracks directly behind the Hopkinson. You will hear trains passing by every hour. And they blow the horns, even late at night (1 am, 2 am, etc). But since... this is an industrial yard, not just a train track, there's often a very loud hum filling the air from the industrial machinery they run. This happens late at night (2 am, 3 am, 4 am, etc) as well. I've never experienced anything like this.
(2) **Busy Street Out Front**
The front of the Hopkinson is right on a fairly busy road. If you prefer not to sleep with ear plugs or noise cancelling headphones, the Hopkinson is not the building for you. It is extremely noisy. Lol. Don't let the leasing agent tell you otherwise.
(3) **Quality Concerns**
In 1 year, my apartment had several issues that don’t make sense for a brand new building: unfinished paint job, cracked bedroom window, broken toilet handle, water stains on the dishwasher, rust stains on the 'plastic' bathtub…etc.
(4) **You can smell other people's cooking from your bathroom**
I routinely smell burnt onions or eggs in my bathroom in the morning. Other people have confirmed this as well. It's a weird ventilation issue with the building (?)
(5) **Hopkinson Management isn't great**
Don't get me wrong, Hopkinson Management is really nice, really polite, really friendly before you sign the lease. They roll out the red carpet for you. You will feel like royalty...before you sign the lease. BUT: after you sign the lease, if there are issues with your apartment (like your heater not working in the middle of winter), if Hopkinson Management decides it's too inconvenient to fix, they'll just dismiss your concerns. Management once closed one of my maintenance tickets without any explanation. It's disappointing, but that's how they operate. *This might be why no one showed up to the holiday mixer that Hopkinson Management had for the residents at the end of 2024. There was a fancy chocolate fountain and everything...but no one came by. It was kind of sad...but not surprising. If you treat paying residents like they don't matter, nobody's going to come to your mixer.
