We just rented a two bedroom in the building. The building units are being updated and renovated but the unit we have prior to renovation is just fine. The unit was clean and move-in ready for us. The staff was helpful and great with communication for moving in furniture. Prior to these accommodations we were staying at a hotel in the area. The main floor with the coffee shop and dining is a nice step up from where we came from. The food is good and the staff is friendly. We look forward... to our stay here at Fort Shelby.

What could be an okay building ruined by the management
After four months, I can definitively say that this is the worst apartment experience I have ever had. The problem starts and ends with the HOA managing the building, along with its staff. From the beginning, they cheap out when furnishing the apartments, so you get super thin wood flooring that is constantly warping, along with half-you-know-what attempts at painting and other maintenance.
Then there are bigger issues with the building that go unfixed for months at a time because the HOA is... too cheap; rooftop fan units that run the bathroom exhaust, and water pumps in the basement, amongst others. Six times now in the past 2 weeks I have been unable to take a shower in the morning because there has been no water.
Even if the HOA wasn't a cheapskate, the people who run this place don't seem to care much about their jobs, or at least that's the appearance that is given. Emails take forever to get answered, maintenance is completely non-responsive...it took over a month to get a single light bulb changed in the hallway. On top of this, they charge $$$ for rent.
Once my lease is up in 8 months, I am out of here...I will never again live in the "Nightmare at Fort Shelby"
