I've lived here for the last 5 years - first in a 1bd/1br on the third floor and later in a 2bd/2br on the seventh. Some pros and cons about living in the building: Pros: - The neighborhood is amazing - the train station is a few blocks away and there are so many wonderful restaurants and small parks nearby and the surrounding buildings are beautiful. It’s also very safe – my car's never been broken into, never seen anything sketchy happening around me, never been harassed, etc. - The apartment... features are nice. They obviously put a lot of money and thought into re-doing the building - the appliances are good (my dishwashers in both apartments were miraculous), the doors are strong, the countertops gorgeous, there are SO many outlets in every room. They really didn't cut any corners. Also, they made an effort to retain as many of the original building features as possible - the moldings, wood floors, lobby ceilings, etc. - I HAVE ONLY EVER SEEN 1 BUG IN MY APARTMENT AND THE BUILDING OVER 5 YEARS. - The building is very secure - there's keyless entry and multiple VERY strong bolts/locks on every apartment door. While there were some package theft issues last year, this is honestly to be expected in any large apartment building and the issue seems to have improved since cameras were installed. - There's a trash shoot and recycling bin on every floor! - The building is cleaned every weekday, so the halls/lobby etc. always look great. - I rarely ever hear my neighbors because the walls are thick. Also, I’ve had zero issues with anyone in the building – everyone always seems nice and respectful and quiet.
Cons: - Communication with the front office can be challenging. They’re generally good about making small fixes (i.e. if the dishwasher breaks or the toilet isn’t working, etc.), but anything complex or that requires multiple approvals can take a really long time, and the office doesn’t communicate the timeline or process very well. This can be very frustrating. - Parking can occasionally be a challenge – especially if you’re new to the neighborhood. However, a yearly parking pass is $25 and you quickly figure out the good parking spots. Plus, there’s a paid lot behind the building.
All in all, I’ve loved living here. I’m moving out this summer because I’m buying a house but I’ll miss this place A LOT.

One of the Best Apartment Buildings in Mount Vernon
I have been staying in the Algonquin Building for the past 7 years. Initially I was staying in the one bedroom floorplan before moving into the the two bedroom floor plan for the past two years. This building is a true gem! The apartments are gorgeous and kept their charm after the renovation the building went through before opening. Most of the original apartment layouts were kept intact, along with a wealth of historic interior details- fluted columns in the two bedroom apartments, cornices,... high ceilings, fireplace mantels and paneled doors and casings. Noise was never an issue although the building is fully occupied and the walls are very thick. The views are just magical (especially north and east facing units). The staff and the property manager are accommodating and responsive at all times and will respond to maintenance requests at anytime.
Working in Washington DC and commuting from Baltimore has never been easier, Penn station is only a ten minute walk and access to the I-95 and Parkway are within ten minutes by car. The building is also conveniently located near a grocery store, CVS, restaurants, amazing cocktail bars, and a local neighborhood wine store. It is also easy to find street parking and there are two lots that can be used behind the building with monthly subscription.
I have nothing bad to say about this building and will always cherish the memories I have spent here, it truly felt and feels like home. No regrets :)

Comfortable, affordable, convenient
I lived in the Algonquin for 2 years, and most of that was during the COVID-19 pandemic. My apartment was comfortable, convenient to work (I am a nurse, and the Algonquin is close to most of the city's major hospitals), and in a great neighborhood. I loved being able to walk to coffee and local restaurants! All in all, a great living experience and I would recommend it to others moving to Baltimore.

Do not recommend
Walls are super thin, very noisy neighborhood. Smoking looks like it is allowed in apartments. Hallways smell like stale cigarettes

3 Years... Great Place! Perfect Location, esp for Agora Folks
I stayed at Algonquin for three years, and I must say... what a great place! The location can't be beat (especially if you work for one of the Agora Companies, as Money Map Press, Agora Financial, Stansberry, and InvestorPlace are literally 200 steps away, door to desk).
I have friends who've been in the building even longer than I was.
Do yourself a favor... take a look at a unit on the 7th, 8th, or 9th floor. Best views of the city... great location... at an affordable price!!
