Theft, gas leaks and more at The Ridge at Talcott Mountain
If I could give zero stars, I would. My family relocated to Connecticut for work and leased at The Ridge at Talcott Mountain as a temporary home while searching for a house. What should have been a simple, short-term rental became the worst leasing experience I’ve ever had.
On our scheduled move-in day, we were told the apartment wasn’t ready because repairs, cleaning, and replacement of broken appliances still hadn’t been completed. This delayed our move, forced us to reschedule movers at our... own expense, and immediately set the tone for what would become months of frustration.
When we were finally given the keys, the apartment was still filthy. We had to hire our own cleaners before we could even unpack.
The problems didn’t stop there. We dealt with a cracked toilet, a broken closet system, a leaking dishwasher, and a washing machine that didn’t work. Repairs took weeks, and after a replacement laundry unit was installed, it was connected so carelessly that it caused a natural gas leak inside our apartment. My wife and our five-year-old son were unknowingly exposed until the fire department had to respond. That alone should tell you everything you need to know about the quality of maintenance and oversight.
Just when we thought things couldn’t get worse, someone broke into our storage unit and stole my wife’s wedding dress along with other personal belongings. While no property can guarantee theft will never occur, management had been repeatedly notified that one of the building’s exterior security doors had been broken for months and could be opened without a key. It was never repaired. After the theft, maintenance confirmed it was still broken.
Perhaps most disappointing has been management’s lack of responsiveness and accountability. When something goes wrong, don’t expect proactive communication or urgency.
The financial losses have been frustrating, but the emotional loss is immeasurable. My wife’s wedding dress cannot be replaced.
Prospective residents deserve to know what they’re signing up for. Between the poor maintenance, serious safety concerns, inadequate security, and lack of accountability, I cannot recommend The Ridge at Talcott Mountain to anyone. I sincerely hope ownership takes these issues seriously so that no other family has to endure what ours did.

Treated like royalty from Day 1 and living a resort lifestyle everyday!
My family and I have proudly called The Ridge at Talcott Mountain home since 2022, and our experience has been nothing short of exceptional. From our very first phone call and property tour through the seamless application process, we were treated like royalty. Four years later, we can honestly say choosing to live here was one of the best decisions we’ve made.
The management team—Taylor and Nycole—and Aaron from the maintenance team are simply outstanding. They are the most professional, kind,... respectful, and responsive property management and maintenance team we’ve ever experienced. Any maintenance request is handled quickly, and they do an excellent job maintaining the apartments, including regular HVAC servicing. We’ve never had issues with our heating or central air because they truly care about keeping everything in top condition.
The amenities are second to none. My son learned how to swim in the heated pool and looks forward to spending every summer there. Our family enjoys the grilling stations and picnic area, and the playground and kids’ area are wonderful for families. Since we both work from home, the business center and conference rooms have been incredibly convenient.
What truly sets The Ridge apart is the sense of community. Every Christmas and throughout the year, the clubhouse is beautifully decorated, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The management team regularly hosts resident events, invites food trucks, and organizes community activities that bring neighbors together. The clubhouse itself is beautiful and can even be reserved for family gatherings and special occasions.
The fitness center, yoga studio, game room, bike path, dog run, ice skating rink, playground, heated pool, grilling stations, and 24-hour on-call maintenance make this community feel like a resort.
If you’re looking for a luxury apartment community where management genuinely cares about its residents, maintains the property exceptionally well, and creates an amazing place to live, I wholeheartedly recommend The Ridge at Talcott Mountain. My family has felt valued and appreciated from day one, and we are grateful to call this community our home.

Great place to live if you don’t mind the cold (or require running water)
Don’t get me wrong, when I moved into this complex, it was the nicest place I had ever lived. Its location right behind Talcott Mountain makes it a beautiful complex. I was in awe when I pulled into the complex each day after work in the fall. The unit I lived in was an end unit townhouse, about 1600 sq. ft.
Everything changed once winter hit and the deep cold set in. As early as December, my pipes froze, and apparently so did those of a lot of other units. There were emails from management... asking tenants to drip the pipes overnight. Then January came and things got worse. Not only did I have to drip the pipes at night, but the heat itself stopped working. I had no heat for over a week while they got somebody to service the unit. Their fix in the meantime was a few space heaters to heat over 1600 sq. ft. Even after the HVAC guy came through, the unit still malfunctioned on multiple days. Every single time they would have their handy man come in and reset it. It would work for a few hours and die in the middle of the night so my family and I would wake up in the middle of the night in the freezing cold. This happened all throughout the month of January. In Connecticut, the average temperature during that month was 18°F, and a lot of nights overnight it got much colder. Management didn’t offer any assistance other than the space haters. Then came the awful week when both the pipes froze and I had no heat. A homeless shelter would’ve been better. At least there I would’ve had heat and running water.
Legally, there were very few remedies available to me because they made continued attempts to fix it. They failed over and over. It was not until the end of January when they finally installed a part that kept the unit working. As soon as they installed that they took away the space heaters. It’s almost like they knew that was what was needed all along. Once that piece was in, the heat worked but not correctly. I would set the heat downstairs to 65° and it would be 90° upstairs. I just wanted a good night’s sleep!
The saddest part of all is that my 13 year old cat died at the end of January of a heart condition, even though she had never been diagnosed with anything of the sort. Of course I think that this temperature situation contributed to her death, but I can’t prove it. I have a hole in my heart because of this.
All that to say, I hope you read this before you sign a lease there. I would not recommend the Ridge at Talcott Mountain

Great staff, great property!
I have lived in many apartments with various landlords or property managers. My moving experience at the ridge was seamless and the staff were so accommodating. I worked with Kim and Shannon to find a townhouse for my family. They listened to my needs and were able to answer any questions I had. We have loved the property and are excited to use the pool and other amenities this summer! Can’t thank them enough.

My kids love the pool and having the green to play soccer and lacrosse. Great premises that are well kept and the property management team is fantastic.
