At first, this place may seem like a cute and affordable apartment option, but living here turned out to be a very disappointing experience. I would NOT recommend living here, and here’s why:
- The building had ongoing cockroach problems. - Management was extremely difficult to reach and very rarely responded to messages or maintenance requests. - Utilities were very expensive for a place in this condition. - There was no working heating at all, and the apartment was very cold. - The elevator... constantly broke down. Emergency services were called multiple times because people got stuck inside, yet it was never properly repaired or replaced. If you have any health or mobility issues, this becomes a serious problem. - After we had already moved in, constant repair and construction work started throughout the building, including inside our apartment. Workers were drilling holes into walls for weeks, making it very difficult to live peacefully. - There were frequent inspections requiring residents to stay home or keep their apartments accessible — fire inspections, maintenance checks, and other visits happened far too often. - Every weekend there is a market directly outside the building, and it continues to this day. Because of this, there is constant noise in the apartments from early morning — crowds of people, loud conversations, and vendors shouting.
Overall, living here felt stressful, noisy, poorly managed, and completely not worth the money.

Property Manager at The Monroe at Virgil Village responded to this review
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're genuinely sorry your experience at The Monroe at Virgil Village didn't meet expectations, and we'd like to offer some context for prospective residents reading this.
Our team takes... maintenance and pest concerns seriously and addresses them as they're submitted through our resident portal. We always encourage residents to reach out directly so we can resolve issues quickly. Regarding the elevator, calling the fire department when someone is stuck is standard safety protocol in any building, and all repairs were handled by licensed technicians.
The inspections referenced are conducted in compliance with city requirements and with proper notice to residents. The construction was a temporary improvement project intended to enhance the property long-term, and it has since been completed. The weekend market is a well-established neighborhood event that is part of the Virgil Village community.
We wish you the best in your next home.

Ongoing Living Experience — 2025 Update
[my last review was flagged and removed]
I’ve lived in this apartment since 2016, and my experience has continuously declined. I currently have mold growing out of my kitchen countertop, and instead of properly fixing the issue, maintenance sprayed "Tough as Tile" — a harsh chemical product directly in my unit without notifying me, or advising me to leave during or after application.
I ended up in urgent care after inhaling the fumes. I left my home for the day, came back the next day, and... the smell was still so strong I had to leave again for an additional 7 days. No one took responsibility, no apology, no temporary housing, nothing.
I’ve sent multiple detailed emails about this and other concerns, only to be ignored, gaslit, or brushed off. I've never met or spoken to a single person from current management — it’s honestly unclear if they’re even real. The responses I get feel automated, robotic, and unprofessional. One even veered into questioning my personal life, which is completely inappropriate.
I've called multiple times (132-382-91521) and never get an answer. Kimberly is kind, but she only shows units and can’t help residents. You're told to email Karmine, who may as well be an AI, because that’s how disconnected and tone-deaf the replies are. I even called CLG Admin (131-023-48880) and Crystal could only “pass the message along.”
I currently don't have bedbugs or roaches, but only because I paid out of pocket for professional-grade injections. However I still see them in the hallways. In past years, roaches come and gone like seasons.
Overall, this place does the bare minimum and often less than that. It’s been years of declining quality, dismissive management, and zero accountability. If you're considering moving in: don’t.
