This is my first apartment with my partner & we have been living here for over 5 months now. It's nothing glamorous, but for a first apartment, I love it! Here is a list of my pros & cons:

PROS:
- Thick walls (can't hear neighbors at all)
- Nice white cabinets & hardwood floor
- Large bedroom window & sliding door to balcony (a lot of natural sunlight)
- So close to downtown La Mesa & the mall
- My unit has a walk-in closet, so great

CONS:
- The doggy area is kind of small and no one really... knows how to pick up after their pet
- You can tell on the door frames they got the "landlord special" lol. The paint is thick and will peel sometimes.
- If you don't pay for a reserved parking spot & the lot is full you may have to park out on the street which isn't awful but just a little inconvenient
- Small gym with not a lot of equipment, but it's typically always empty.
- Had ONE encounter with a roach in the shower, but I'm not squirmish around bugs.

Overall, this complex is great for couples & first-apartment owners. It's a fair price and I think well worth it since it's a gated complex so close to everything! Read More

The worst complex I have ever lived at in my entire life. Constant leaks, poor management, dirty. The list goes on and on. Rent is going up everywhere but if you look at their prices and what you have to deal with?! no thanks. I would rather pay that much somewhere else. They moved out several people due to ceiling leaks.

I have lived in this complex for exactly two years. The apartments are low quality, management is unprofessional and rude, you're going to need to call maintenance every other week because something is always broken and when you do call it's going to take two weeks for them to service your apartment. If there are other options please choose anything other than Elan Avante.

horrible. drugged out people running around. halls constantly smell like marijuana. random people camping out in the stairwells. there was a drug bust with the swat team & theft all the time.
