Remarkably Bad

1. Amenities: The pool has been usable maybe one week in three years of living here. They gutted the gym and never replaced it maybe a year ago, and the machines were largely broken before then anyway. At no point have they taken down signs advertising these amenities.

2. Building maintenance: Everything is broken, and they take forever to get fixed, if at all. Only one elevator works the vast majority of the time, often neither of them work. The AC breaks all the time and is super humid. It...
breaks so often, in fact, that the building simply placed a portable AC unit in every apartment - on top of one of the chairs from the pool they weren’t using, with the intake fed through a cardboard sheet they plugged one of the windows with, and with the drain feeding into a plastic bucket. The same pipe leaks in the same spot in the lobby maybe monthly, and has for literally years, and they just cannot fix it. There was a work team redoing the concrete ceiling outside by the mailboxes - they worked for one day, and then left their scaffolding and rubble all over the outdoor common space. They spend all of their money on repainting the same walls after every new manager they hire, while leaving elevators and AC unfixed. They once tore up the hallway carpet, didn’t clean it, and then just put the same carpet back down?? I could go on and on.

3. Room maintenance: They have a portal to make maintenance requests, but it rarely ever gets a response, I always have to ask the front desk (if anyone’s there) for maintenance, and then have to follow up multiple times before getting any help. Maintenance often doesn’t even fix what you call them in for anyway, just diagnose the problem and then bail until you go to the office again.

4. Management turnover: Theres been maybe 4 managers over the past 2-3 years. Theres usually a month or two without management in between each, in which the building stops doing any maintenance, stops paying for garbage pickup, stops cleaning the common spaces, etc. The quality of managers varies greatly. The one when I first moved here was decent, the next two did virtually nothing, and the current one is friendly but not super effective, I must imagine partly because the building owners can’t be bothered to facilitate anything she’s asked to do by tenants.

All to say: this place is affordable for a reason.

It's a Dump!

No management team. They keep quitting. No pool. No BBQ. No custodial service. Trash shoot always stopped up. Trash all over property. Inside and out. People constantly stuck in elevator. Fire department always here!

Property Manager at The Highland Midtown responded to this review

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We are so sorry to hear that you're feeling so frustrated with The Highland Midtown, as we are always striving to provide an elevated living experience. That said, you are correct that... we've struggled to maintain a strong team, though I am encouraged to confirm that we have a new Community Manager, who started just this week. Please feel free to stop in and say hello to Kaitlyn!

Suffering! It’s hotter than Arizona in August.

We’ve been a full week without a air conditioning. We’ve been over a week before without hot water. The pool is never open. The heat brought bugs. Roaches too be specific. There’s never any heads up, notification or any compensation off your rent or utilities. What did I ever do in life too deserve this kind of treatment????

Stay far away

I've lived at the Highland Midtown for 3 years now and can't wait until my lease is up to leave. Maintenance is non-existent and emergency maintenance never calls or comes to fix the problem. The office is always closed and the management is one of the worst I've ever experienced. You don't control your own AC/heat so you're at the whim of management. I've had to leave messages for "emergency" maintenance to fix a flooding bathroom over 10 times, but still no response and this was on a Sunday... afternoon. There have been several instances of no hot water and management never calls plumbing if it happens on the weekend, because they don't want to pay extra. Expect to be taking cold showers for a week at least. The smell of marijuana and cigarettes permeate the air in both the lobby and your respective apartment, and nothing is done about it despite a clear clause in the lease stating no drugs or smoking. Management has changed several times and each one is worse that the last. Stay far away from this apartment. Any new tenant bonus is not worth the headache of having to move again or fight with the office about things that shouldn't be a problem in the first place.
